To protect Pirelli next year, the FIA are reducing downforce levels.
My question is why are the FIA reducing diffuser size instead of limiting wing angles?
Limiting wing angles would reduce the disruption for following cars and prevent excessive loads. Reducing “clean” under-floor downforce instead seems ludicrous. Plus, there are already maximum wing radius rules in place, see Sauber, Albert Park 2011. So, just alter those instead of costing teams more wasted development on a trimmed diffuser.
