United States Grand Prix FP3 session saw Max Verstappen on top confirming our reporting yesterday about his underlying US GP FP2 race & quali pace. His time of 1:33.305 bested last year’s session best of 1:33.7 comfortably. Also consistent with our reporting that was contrary to popular opinion, Vettel’s pace was strong yesterday. He also looked very comfortable. When you factored in his step harder compound, his pace rivaled Verstappen’s with both being strong on aggregate than the Silver Arrows.
Don’t count out Bottas though as he jockeyed back and forth with Lewis for the top Mercedes spot. The qualifying session of the United States Grand Prix is going to be an absolute shootout! Leclerc is the only question mark as a smoky engine halted his FP3 appearance. After the session it was noted he had an oil leak and the Ferrari team will swap out his power unit for a previously-used one. This allows him to avoid grid penalties.
Lando Norris shocks everyone and steps onto FP3 podium grounds with a phenomenal lap pulled together. Now we have to determine was this fuel loads or genuine pace. Either way, the-soon-to-be-non-teenager had a solid showing for McLaren.
In other F1 News, Sergio Perez will still start from his pits due to his weigh bridge penalty.
