MercedesSergio Perez Weigh Bridge Penalty Dampens Momentum, Ends In Pit Lane Start
Sergio Perez Weigh Bridge Penalty will deflate the Racing Point driver’s momentum after putting on a tremendous show for his home audience and finishing best of the rest at the Mexican Grand Prix. Perez was signaled to get his car weighed PRIOR to going to his pit lane. This is meant to put a light on any teams who may alter weight or the set up to create unfair conditions for their car to be faster. Sergio got a chance to explain himself to the racing stewards but it appears his rationale wasn’t enough to help him avoid the harsh blow. He has been confirmed to start his United States Grand Prix from pit lane.
Sergio’s downfall in this situation is that it would be impossible to exonerate him considering the clear miscommunication that occurs during the onboard radio. Ultimately, his garage could have done much more to help him avoid this. But that doesn’t remove Perez from taking responsibility.
At the end of the day, Perez was sitting P15 prior to the penalty. This isn’t going to damper his day much more than it already was on pace for. He’ll have to fight through the pack if he wants to have a better weekend. Stay up to date on all the F1 News and never miss a breaking story.
