Mexican Grand Prix Results Proved Once Again That Lewis Is A Living Legend & That Physics Don’t Matter Much When You’re Hamilton.
Just a couple weeks after clinching the Constructors championship, Lewis Hamilton takes another massive leap forward towards clinching his 6th World Drivers Title. Though he didn’t achieve it today at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, his one-stop strategy positioned him out of reach for his teammate Valtteri Bottas and the two Ferrari drivers despite their best efforts.
Charles Leclerc started out on pole but suffered a +6 second pit stop early one which all but ruined the Monegasque driver’s hopes for a title in Mexico. Leclerc ended his day in 4th place – two grid places behind his teammate Sebastian Vettel and just in front of Bottas.
Valterri had a tough weekend of his own after his contact with Verstappen on lap four which ended in the puncture for Max. Valtteri had a qualifying wreck as well that mentally set the Fin driver back. Landing on a podium after the sort of weekend as a whole Bottas has had is a feat he can be proud of.
Sebastian Vettel described his race position at one point as “peachy”. The four time world champion seemed happy with a runner up and he picks up some much needed points that bring him closer to surpassing his teammate in the F1 Standings for 2019. This performance also cleared Vettel who was tied with Verstappen a considerable margin going in to the US grand prix.
Mexican Grand Prix Results Dilute Verstappen’s Drive
It was a horrendous weekend for some of the drivers between the FIA showing its teeth on the Verstappen Mexican Grand Prix penalty , Lando Norris’s horror show, or Albon’s drive not materializing. But the young Dutchman who had his pole position snatched away by the controversial decision by the FIA mentioned above battled back to earn a 6th place finish on the grid as well as driver of the day. All while racing his Honda-powered engine on 66 lap old tyres. AMAZING.
Sergio Perez gave his home audience a great reason to come out and support him as he finishes best of the rest. Ricciardo hunted down Checo but wasn’t able to do it despite switching to his fresh tyres after his own marathon stint on C2 compounds. Daniil Kvyat is given a final lap penalty after his late contact with Nico Hulkenberg which sent him careening into the turn 16 wall. The current Renault driver being replaced next season by Esteban Ocon is ultimately lands P10, two spots behind his teammate Daniel Ricciardo and just behind Pierre Gasly. Kvyat’s 10 second penalty demotes him out of the points and to P11.
