Yeah it’s been quite an interesting day but of course to come out on top was incredible. The last few races we knew Ferrari were going to be really quick on the straight but for us to come back like this and take pole position like this, a big thank you to the team. They kept pushing very hard and bringing new parts to the car and it showed today that we are very quick.

Mexican Grand Prix Qualifying: Q3 Session Summary
Most teams go into Q2 on the medium tyres but pit to throw on on the red-tipped C4s as you begin the race on the compound you end Q2 on. Hamilton continues his struggles as he misses the apex of turn 11. Two tenths of a second separate 7th place and 11th place. For the final run in Q2, Mercedes show they are committed to starting race on the medium tyre as Red Bull and Ferrari start on red tyres. The Red Bulls also back off their runs to give themselves flexibility but it appears the top teams feel the medium tyres switched to a hard compound will lead to the best race.
