The Abu Dhabi Qualifying session wasn’t the thrill we saw in our previous outing at the Brazilian Grand Prix, but it did reveal a lot for tomorrow’s final Formula 1 event at The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Despite a rocky start the weekend, Lewis was able to show his grit and prove Yas Marina is his course as he takes a 10th pole and matches the record for pole at a single venue. This is exactly what Lewis needed too considering he hasn’t been on pole since his dreadful German Grand Prix performance.
The bittersweet performance of Valtteri Bottas’s performance is his penalty-based demotion actually puts Max Verstappen on the front row with Lewis. Verstappen was very quick in sector 1 with Merc being untouchable in sector 3. If Verstappen catches a tow and get around Lewis before turn 3, he might be able to keep enough gap until DRS is activated. If not, he’ll have a hard time at Yas in dirty air. But all Max needs to do is maximize his position to end P3 behind the Silver Arrows in the drivers world championship.
