The Ferrari boys were 4th and 5th but remember they were running on the yellow compounds interestingly. They seemed to have maintained their straight line speed and will see some performance boosts when they drop down a compound to the reds in the qualifying session.
Sergio Perez has positioned himself well as he’ll need a solid result at the Yas Marina circuit to secure his P10 finish. He finished the practice session at P7 best of the rest with Ricciardo breathing down his neck in P8 for Renault F1 team.
Completing the top 10 time sheet were Sainz and Gasly who are fighting for best of the rest title for the 2019 F1 season. Gasly benefiting from better technology for half the season at Red Bull before being demoted back down to Toro Rosso. He’s also benefitted from his P2 finish in Brazil for the Toro Rosso outfit recently. Sainz had a good showing in Brazil as well with both of them seeing the podium. As of right now, the pair is tied at 95 points each headed in to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Qualifying session.
A surely frustrated Grosjean ended a free practice out of the points for the first time all weekend. He finished in P11 after an incident with Valtteri Bottas ruined his only experimental floor that seemed to have been helping his results. He switched his Haas F1 ride back to the 2019 aero set up. This adjustment seems to have resulted in a slight dip for his pace.
