Singapore Grand Prix Qualifying is dominated by Charles Leclerc as he three-peats for Ferrari and is on pace to be one of only three drivers to win their first 3 F1 grand prix’s consecutively. Below is the final qualifying table from the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix:
Singapore Grand Prix Q3 Summary
Charles Leclerc executes a sensational lap and snatches pole position right from under his teammate Sebastian Vettel. Leclerc positions himself to be one of only three drivers to ever win their first three races consecutively & would join the likes of Mika Hakkinen and Damon Hill.
Vettel only has himself to blame though as he was pipped by Hamilton and snubbed him from the front row denying Ferrari the front row lockout they needed in order to grab some points in the constructors championship. On top of that, Vettel has multiple errors on his final attempt in Q3 to boost his provisional pole position but has to abort his lap and preserve his tyres.
For the first run in the Q3 shootout, Vettel took provisional pole at 1:36.437. Max Verstappen set a purple sector 3 finishing at 32.849 and all but splits the Ferraris. Hamilton complains about his front end as he compromises his lap with a costly mistake going wide. It doesn’t look good for either Mercedes to take pole based on their first attempt in Q3.
Here is the first round of the final shootout with 6 minutes left on the clock where each driver will have another go at Pole in the Singapore Grand Prix:
- Sebastian Vettel
- Charles Leclerc
- Lewis Hamilton
- Valtteri Bottas
- Alex Albon
- Carlos Sainz
- Lando Norris
- Daniel Ricciardo
- Nico Hulkenberg
Singapore Grand Prix Q2 Summary
Ferrari goes 1-2 yet again with the silver arrows just behind. Every time Ferrari have finished quali sessions 1-2 like this, they’ve gone on to take pole. Drivers knocked out of the Singapore Q2 Session:
- Sergio Perez
- Antonio Giovinazzi
- Pierre Gasly
- Kimi Räikkönen
- Kevin Magnussen
Mercedes change up their normal strategy and go out first in the Singapore Grand Prix Qualifying session number 2. Hamilton jockeys with Leclerc for track position as they protect their strategy to keep dirty air around the car.
Kimi Räikkönen misses out on Q3 but more notable he has a fairly strong touch with the wall half way through his lap. He has a compromised lap but will be fine for race day Sunday.
Singapore Grand Prix: Q1 Summary
Drivers knocked out of the Singapore Q1 Session:
- Daniel Kvyat
- Lance Stroll
- Romain Grosjean
- George Russell
- Robert Kubica
Mercedes out on the medium while everyone else is out on the softs. They only had two sets total. They used one in practice and the last in Q1. Seeing their Q2 tyre is the one they have to start the race on, it appears the likely Mercedes strategy is to go out on softs in qualifying and start the race as hard as possible.
Lance Stroll is the second Racing Point of the day to brush the wall but this incident is much less severe than Sergio Perez’s incident.
Robert Kubica out-qualified once again by his teammate as he misses the checker flag to even set a time.
