The objective is to challenge the idea that Mercedes need to even be considering Bottas with Esteban Ocon. With all the swirl of transfers, it’s important to revisit Mercedes season thus far. In this article I have made you a video where I go through in detail race by race why the team has been so successful highlighting some of their strong moments, areas they’ve faulted, and how the rest of the season is likely to pan out. Based on the data we have pulled here at Cranky Yankee Motorsport, it doesn’t make much sense for Mercedes to replace Valterri with Ocon.

Mercedes F1 2020 Driver Prediction

My prediction is that Mercedes will ultimately release Esteban Ocon and Cyril will snatch up the French driver. Renault is a team all about  new technology and fresh drivers. I believe they will jump at the opportunity to get a French driver in the front office to spice things up with the pricey Aussie in Ricciardo they purchased in the off season.

Mercedes are spoiled with options at the moment. This could lead to them making the poor choice of dropping Bottas and chasing young drivers. Thanks to Leclerc, there is some logic behind younger drivers getting the chance but they should hang on to Bottas and consider a bigger move to get George Russell or even Max Verstappen should he be freed due to his performance clause with Red Bull Racing.
