The Eifel Grand Prix Qualifying session was electric despite the names being familiar at the top with Bottas taking his third pole in another Mercedes front row lockout.
Despite Bottas on pole, he won’t be comfortable as I’m sure his team has made him aware 80% of the previous 5 races at The Nurburgring have been the Saturday’s runner up. He needs no reminder that the man beside him is no ordinary driver either as Hamilton is eager to match Schumacher’s record – in the least for the much needed 25 points of padding in the Drivers Championship.
But it was Max Verstappen who was yet again a thorn in the Arrows side as he sat on provisional pole and stayed close as he was leap frogged by the boys in silver.
Alex Albon starts next to his teammate in a rare sight. It’s just his fourth start from the second row in what is presumably the fourth best car on the grid. The Thai driver is still in the hot seat and will need some results to boost his stock for the future of the program.

The midfield continues to intensify as Lando Norris snaps a six race streak of Sainz outqualifying the brit and Sergio Perez taking his worst quali yet in ideal conditions. On the low train was Sebastian Vettel in front of a home audience for the 7th consecutive time having to watch the Eifel Grand Prix qualifying shootout from his garage.
